Wellbeing at Reckitt – Powered by Hintsa

Supporting you on your journey towards better life and better performance

Success is a by-product of wellbeing

The human mind is extraordinarily beautiful. We experience 70,000 thoughts per day – and those thoughts become great work, winning teams, artistic masterpieces and scientific breakthroughs. But sometimes that mind is put to the test. We feel stressed, overwhelmed, tired.

We cannot promise you a stress-free life, but we can promise you healthy routines that will benefit you not for the next two weeks, but for the rest of your life. It is not just about better work/life balance, it is about better life, full-stop.

The Circle of Better Life

Hintsa’s model, the Circle of Better Life, was developed by Dr Aki Hintsa and has been perfected over 20 years in sports and business. Imagine a wheel with 7 components. If one part breaks down, the wheel stops spinning. For the wheel to spin smoothly, all parts need to be in place and in balance.

In this video, Performance Scientist James Hewitt walks you through the 7 elements and explains how better life leads to better performance. Looking for concrete tips? Here are 6 tips to refresh your wellbeing routine, along the elements of the Circle of Better Life.

The 7 elements of wellbeing

  • The Core is your identity, purpose, and control in life. It’s about finding meaning, realising your potential, and building a life that looks like you.
  • Physical activity is your individually suitable level of endurance, strength, and mobility – so you can live long and healthy.
  • Nutrition is the healthy diet that enables you to function optimally: prevent diseases, boost immunity and give daily energy – physical and cognitive.
  • Sleep & recovery is your ability to recuperate, regenerate, and perform again tomorrow. It includes night-time recovery, detachment, and periods of renewal.
  • Biomechanics is your body’s ability to move right, with control, and pain-free. Good biomechanics reduces injuries and enables lifelong physical activity.
  • Mental energy encompasses your thoughts, emotions, and mindsets. It’s your ability to manage daily routines, work, pressure, relationships, and priorities.
  • General health is your overall state of health: curing and preventing illness, and promoting an all-round healthier life.

Quick tips to try today

Start a meeting 4 min past

Ending meetings early is a great idea, but it rarely works. Instead, try scheduling a meeting to start 4 minutes past. Give yourself, and your colleagues, a breather.

Walk & Talk

A Harvard study showed that working hours have increased by 10-20% during the pandemic. Yikes, that’s a lot of screen time. Try scheduling one of your meetings this week as a walk & talk instead.

“Fake commute”

Our brain works with triggers – when to start the day, and when to end it. In remote work, we risk never switching off. Try a “fake commute” – a 5-minute walk to mark the start and end of your workday.

(Un)bend the banana

Spending time on-screen gives our body a bias for forward motion: we bend like a banana. Counteract the bend right now: stretch your arms and head up, back, down, and to the sides. Done!

The ta daa -list

We all have a to do -list. At best, it makes us productive. At worst, it overwhelms us. Balance it out with a ta daa! -list: a list of things you have done. Review it regularly and pat yourself on the back.

Try active recovery

We often relax after the workday by crashing on the couch. But that’s passive relaxation – the equivalent of fast food for the brain. Try an active form of recovery instead: lego blocks, drawing, jigsaw puzzles…

Take a break, do a workout – 5, 10 or 15 minutes

Stay fit and energised – despite lockdowns. These bodyweight exercises require no gym and no equipment – just for you to show up. Have an elastic band or a kettlebell? Find more exercises here.
